Currently Listening to “Enough” by Zahkia

Who are the band members and what do they play?

Zahkia- Vocals

How and where did you get together?

I am an independent artist from California, USA and I am currently based in Nashville, Tennessee, USA. I have been singing for as long as I can remember and continued my love for music by studying jazz music in college, with an emphasis in voice. I've been performing for the past 6 years and recently moved to Nashville to focus on my original music and artistry.

What are the band's main influences?

Whitney Houston, Paramore, Issues, Aretha Franklin

Have you played any notable gigs, festivals or other events? Likewise radio or TV appearances?

Zahkia has appeared on local TV news, Studio40 Live, with her cover band and has played festivals, fairs, and private events all across the the west coast of the United States.

Are there any other interesting or amusing happenings – no matter how small – that the band have been involved with that would be of interest to those who like your music?

A fan once gave me a scarf and asked me to always keep in on stage with me. I took the scarf and have brought it to every single show I've played since.

Do you have any favourable quotes from previous reviews of the band that you'd be happy to share?

There are two lines that fans have said at shows that have always stuck with me. "I can't believe such a huge voice can come out of someone so small" and "Where does all that energy come from? Can you share it"?

Where was the single/EP/album recorded and who was involved in its production?

The single was recorded in Nashville, TN by Nick Gibbons at both Average Joes Entertainment and Soultrain Sound Studios

Is there a particular ethos behind the single/EP/album or any particular music styles or events that inspired it?

This song was written in collaboration with another artist that happened to be on NBC's, The Voice. He was asked by another contestant to write a song, and we decided to collaborate on it. So, the song was originally intended for another contestant on that show. That person really liked the song, but their management decided to go in another direction. I wasn't disappointed though, because I secretly fell in love with the song. Luckily for me, the other writer was in support of me releasing it for myself.

Can you briefly describe what the song/each song is about? If you are releasing an album then either describe the thinking behind the project or choose a couple of lead tracks to focus on.

This song came from an internal place that is a combination of worry, optimism, and hope, which I believe so many people can relate to. The struggle to keep on going when life feels so rough, and knowing that through everything, we are the ones getting up every day and moving forward. We should see ourselves through a lens of compassion and care, and know that we are enough.

Were there any notable or amusing happenings surrounding the recording/production of the EP? As above, list whatever might be of relevance.

I was fortunate to be introduced to Nick Gibbons, a drummer and amazing producer through a friend and previous band mate that works for a local record label in Nashville, Tennessee, USA. Prior to working with Nick, I helped film a music video for a local artist in town, who Nick happens to play with. Such a small world, but I met him before I knew I would be working with him.
