Artist Spotlight -Judith Owen “Mind Is On Vacation”
Judith Owen Gives Mose Allison’s “Mind Is On Vacation” a Sharp, Stylish New Life
Judith Owen is a master at breathing new life into the classics, and her version of Mose Allison’s “Mind Is On Vacation” is a perfect example. On her acclaimed album Suit Yourself, Owen dives deep into the heart of jazz and blues, transforming both hidden gems and fan favorites with her signature wit, vibrant personality, and undeniable musical spark.
Owen’s take on the track oozes swagger. She lets the groove simmer, allowing Mose Allison’s razor-sharp lyrics to shine through with every sly twist. The whole vibe is clever, playful, and just a little bit wicked; Owen knows exactly how to spotlight the song’s relevance in today’s world of endless chatter and big egos. She calls it one of the ultimate songs about narcissism, and you can feel her leaning into that sly humor with every note.
Then Joe Bonamassa arrives. His guitar brings just the right amount of heat, adding a bluesy edge that sizzles but never overshadows Owen’s storytelling. The magic here is all about chemistry; both know when to let loose and when to hold back, creating a dynamic that feels electric and effortless.
Throughout Suit Yourself, Owen blurs the lines between jazz, blues, soul, and big-band with fearless confidence. “Mind Is On Vacation” stands out as a track that’s clever, smoky, and impossibly cool; proof that Owen knows how to make every moment count.
