Can you share a moment in your own healing journey writing the song, when you first felt that spark of freedom in being alone, rather than a sense of loss?
SB: Yes, well I believe that in life, you can choose to make or not lemonade from the lemons you're handed in life. We can choose to look at a situation from a positive perspective instead of a negative one. Even though heartbreak sucks, you can come out from it so much stronger than before.
2. You’ve mentioned that Tevin Campbell’s “Can We Talk” sparked the initial inspiration for this track, but in the studio, it blossomed into your own bold anthem of self-expression. How did that classic R&B vibe shift and evolve as you started writing from a place of independence and personal discovery?
SB: Thank you! Well, I love to take inspiration from my own personal favorites and make it something unique of my own. That's what's fun with the creative process, that it can blossom from inspiration something old into something entirely new and fresh!
3. Your words, “It’s from pain that we grow,” really capture the heart of this release. How has channeling vulnerability into your music shifted your perspective on past relationships? What do you hope someone currently navigating heartbreak will feel or discover when they listen to “My Own Company”?
SB: Music is definitely healing for me. I love to use songwriting and singing as a part of my own healing journey, I always have. I hope that people feel empowered more than they feel sad when they listen to My Own Company.
